Tempo Latino, Vic-Fezensac
It’s Latin time in the South of France
Translated from the original by feliz

We could attempt to present all the different artists who will be playing on the main stage at Vic-Fezensac this year, but the festival’s site (please see the link below) does the job very well.

Watch out, the 2007 edition is organized as a return to the source, with the appearances of several artists who have already appeared at the festival in earlier years, (like Willie Colon, Son Reinas, Cachao, Maraca and Africando), and, as with preceding years, the can’t-miss event, the exceptional show of an artist who is so rare on the French salsa scene that we can’t remember having seen him here before, Yomo Toro himself !

And that is without taking into account the arrival of one of the most fabulous vocalists in the world, Candido Fabre, the man who is capable of holding an auditorium in suspense for more than five hours without once repeating the same rhyme !

But Vic, as it’s known among friends, is more than artistic program on the main stage alone (although the line up is in itself a reason to make the trip !). There’s more…

To describe Vic by the concerts in the arena would be to commit a great mistake in appreciation of what the festival is really about.

Vic is, during the course of four days at the end of July, the world-wide capital of the hispanophone Caribbean countries, of salsa, of good food, and conviviality.

It is no mistake if these artists keep coming back for more.

Imagine !

You arrive from the depths of the nuyorican barrio, to a place where everyone shakes your hand and calls you by your nickname, and you’re welcomed like a king by the organizers and the public (because, in reality, that’s what you are, Willie, Yomo, and Candido !).

So yes, you love this festival and you show it to us, in the audience, when you are on stage and you generously share the range of your talents with us. And you’re faithful to it.

Like us, the audience. Even if the accounting registers have shown sometimes in the past that we have not been faithful enough… this year, we’ll come to make up for past wrongs !

So yes, Vic is happiness, in the bottles of wine that the region is known for, happiness in any variety of duck conserves that it’s also famous for, and especially : for its music.

Vic is the site of the most amazing concerts in the world.

It is the unforgettable Oscar, who made his audience cry with joy in his concert in the arena. Literally ! I was there, my Kleenexes and those of all the spectators present, are the proof !

Bobby Valentin à Vic en 2006

Or Bobby Valentin and Cheo Feliciano, surprised and visibly moved to see that we were so fervent, so appreciative, that our little hearts beat to the rhythm of their claves !

It’s the Sonora Ponceña, whose musicians were overwhelmed to see how many of us had come to see them that took pictures of the audience from the stage, because they couldn’t believe their eyes, and back home, they wouldn’t believe them either !

It is the joy of recording on one’s mental hard drive, in the memory box of the brain, the most rich and strongest moments of a spectator’s life, of a salsa lover’s passion, of a dancer’s delight, and to stuff one’s eyes, ears, and taste buds, while you’re there !

Vic is one of the things in life that must be experienced, at least once. Except that once you’ve been there one time, you usually come back for more.
